Complementary Procedures

At Janssen Zürich, we place great importance on a holistic treatment of all facial areas.
Facelifts are therefore often combined with:

  • Brow elevation
  • Upper blepharoplasty
  • Lower blepharoplasty
  • Lip Lift
  • Fat transfer

How does a brow lift work?

As we age, the forehead and eyebrows tend to droop slightly. A brow lift is an effective method to correct this process.

Effects

  • Correction of a tired-looking appearance
  • Reduction of excess skin in the lateral upper eyelid area (‘hooding’)
  • Improvement of frown lines
  • Harmonization of a harsh- or tired-looking gaze

Gliding Brow Lift

Special suture techniques (‘quilting’) can help avoid larger scars.

Benefits:

  • minimally invasive
  • short recovery time

Temporary numbness or itching may occur.

Temporal Brow Lift

Primarily lifts the outer third of the brow through a small incision hidden in the hairline.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

  • Small incisions hidden in the hairline
  • Natural, long-lasting results
  • Proven efficacy and patient satisfaction (BJPS, 2002)

Blepharoplasty (Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery)

Upper blepharoplasty

In upper eyelid surgery, the following are performed:

  • excess skin
  • if necessary, portions of muscle
  • fat pads

removed or reshaped.

The incisions are placed in the natural eyelid crease and are virtually invisible once healed.

Modern Techniques

Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty

  • Incision on the inner side of the lower eyelid
  • No visible external scar
  • Removal/repositioning of fat tissue

Fat repositioning

In cases of volume loss:

  • Fat is shaped or redistributed
  • if necessary, supplemented with autologous fat

Laser treatment

For the treatment of fine wrinkles in the lower eyelid skin.

Lower Eyelid Tightening / Canthopexy

Depending on the findings, lower eyelids can be:

  • tightened
  • smoothed
  • re-volumized

be done.
If needed, a canthopexy stabilizes the lower eyelid.

Important Note

Excess skin on the upper eyelid often occurs due to shrinking or drooping eyebrows.
In these cases, a brow lift often achieves more natural results.

Complications after Blepharoplasty

Usually minor and temporary.

Possible issues:

  • Rounding of the lower eyelid
  • Ectropion
  • Asymmetries
  • Sunken lower eyelid (‘hollowing’)
  • ‘Operated’ look (post-blepharoplasty syndrome)

In severe cases, secondary procedures may be necessary:

  • Canthopexy
  • Endoscopic S-Ponytail Lift
  • Fat transfer

Medical Special Cases

Thyroid disorders can:

  • protrusion of the eyes
  • eyelid retraction

and often require more complex procedures on bone and soft tissues.

Ptosis caused by muscle weakness must be diagnosed before the surgery — blepharoplasty alone does not correct it.

Buccal Fat Removal (removal of the Bichat fat pad)

In buccal fat removal, the fat pad in the cheek area is specifically:

  • reduced and/or
  • repositioned

The procedure is minimally invasive and performed through a small, completely invisible incision inside the mouth.

Der Eingriff ist minimally invasive und erfolgt über eine kleine, vollständig unsichtbare Inzision in der Mundschleimhaut.

This method is especially suitable for patients who want a slimmer midface contour without external scars.

Lip Lift (Upper Lip Lift)

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that shortens the distance between the upper lip and the nose to achieve a more youthful and harmonious facial appearance.

The incision is discreetly placed in the natural fold under the nose. It can take up to a year for the fine scar to fully heal and fade.

A lip lift also provides a lasting improvement in lip shape and volume, often reducing the need for non-surgical lip treatments with fillers.

Chin Correction (Genioplasty)

A weak or receding chin can significantly affect facial harmony.

In some cases, this is due to underdevelopment of the entire lower jaw, but in most patients, a relatively simple procedure is sufficient to improve chin projection.

Chin Implants

  • the simplest method for chin augmentation
  • however, possible risk of infection or implant rejection

Chin Advancement (Surgical Genioplasty)

An alternative method is surgical advancement of the patient’s own bone, which:

  • does not require any foreign material
  • is well tolerated
  • may cause temporary numbness of the lower lip (usually fully reversible)

Fat Injections / Autologous Fat Grafting

A relatively new option for milder cases:

  • Enhancement of the chin contour using autologous fat
  • particularly natural effect
  • ideal for subtle enhancement

The reliability of modern techniques for chin augmentation has significantly improved in recent years.

An individual assessment is crucial to determine the best procedure for each patient’s anatomy.
