Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and postoperative recovery
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy after facelift surgery may support the body’s natural healing process and help reduce post-operative swelling and bruising. At Janssen Zurich, HBOT is considered as part of a comprehensive approach to recovery when clinically appropriate.
What is HBOT?
HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a controlled, pressurised chamber. This significantly increases oxygen delivery to tissues, accelerating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. It is widely used across medical and surgical fields to support wound healing, manage inflammation, and enhance recovery.
Benefits after facelift & brow lift
When used selectively following procedures such as facelifts, browlifts, or combined facial surgery, HBOT may offer the following benefits:
- Reduction in swelling and bruising
Enhanced oxygenation can speed the resolution of post-surgical oedema and ecchymosis. - Improved tissue repair
Oxygen supports fibroblast activity, new blood vessel formation, and collagen synthesis, key processes in facial healing. - Support in complex cases
HBOT may be particularly beneficial in revision procedures, or in patients with prior surgery or compromised circulation. - Lower risk of complications
Better oxygen delivery may support immune function and help prevent infection in the early post-operative phase.
